In-laws thrash woman over property dispute, booked

Ludhiana: Jamalpur police booked five of a family, including four women and a man for thrashing a woman, their sister-in-law, with iron rods over a property dispute. The victim said she does not have a child and the accused wanted to throw her out of the house to stop her from taking a share in property.
On the complaint of Sukhpreet Kaur of Bhookhri Kalan village, an FIR has been lodged against Ravneet Kaur, Sukhpreet Kaur, Pritam Kaur, Inderjit Kaur and Manjinder Singh of the same village.

The woman said she got married to Sukhdev Singh, brother of Ravneet Kaur, which was her second marriage. She didn’t have a child from this marriage and the accused wanted her to leave the house. The woman alleged that on Saturday, the accused barged into her house when she was alone and attacked her with iron rods. On hearing her cries, nearby residents gathered and the accused escaped from the spot. Sukhpreet Kaur said the accused have a dispute with her over property, as they do not want her to get any share.
ASI Mukhtiar Singh said that a case was filed under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC. The accused are on the run.
