From edu to graveyard encroachments, Pb minority panel chief addresses community issues
Ludhiana: The chairperson of Punjab Minority Commission, Abdul Bari Salmani, held a meeting with the members of the minority community at the historic Jama Masjid here on Saturday. The meeting was attended by Shahi Imam Punjab Maulana Muhammad Usman Ludhianvi and members of the district and police administration. Earlier, the chairperson of the commission was welcomed upon his arrival in Ludhiana.A statement suggested that during the meeting, Abdul Bari Salmani and Shahi Imam Punjab discussed the problems faced by members of the minority community in the state. It added that Shahi Imam Maulana Muhammad Usman Ludhianvi presented the long-standing demand of the community residing in Ludhiana in a written form to the chairperson of the commission. One of the demands urged the Punjab govt to immediately provide space and funds to build another Muslim community centre for Eid in the city.On this occasion, the Shahi Imam of Punjab addressed the challenges faced by Muslim boys and girls across the state in obtaining caste certificates, with a focus on improving the educational opportunities for children from the minority community. He also discussed with the chairperson the issues related to illegal encroachments on graveyards in the state.Earlier, while speaking to mediapersons, Abdul Bari Salmani reiterated the commission's committment to resolving the issues of the minorities. He added that efforts were being made to grant special status to educational institutions related to minorities.He added that he would meet the chief minister Bhagwant Maan and present before him whatever problems the Shahi Imam of Punjab, Maulana Muhammad Usman Ludhianvi, mentioned and try to resolve them soon. He claimed that the Punjab govt, under the leadership of the CM, was also putting in its best efforts for the development and welfare of the minority community.
