Feeling the burn? Ludhiana braces for 35°C heatwave.
Ludhiana: The brief respite of a mild spring has come to an abrupt end in Ludhiana, with weather officials forecasting a sharp rise in temperatures that could see the mercury hit 35°C by later this week.
Following recent rains that kept the city unseasonably cool, Sunday marked a turning point as mostly sunny skies pushed the maximum temperature to 31.6°C. While still 3.3 degrees below the seasonal average, it represents a steady climb from the 26.7°C recorded just five days ago.
Meteorological data reveals a consistent upward trend in both day and night temperatures since April 8. Overnight lows have also risen significantly, climbing from 13°C on April 9 to 16.7°C on Sunday. Residents say the change is already palpable. "We were enjoying the pleasant weather, but now we are gearing up for the heat," said local resident Gurjit Singh. "I've found myself drinking much more water today as the air begins to feel warmer."
Clear Skies Ahead
The meteorological department predicts a mix of "partly cloudy" and "mainly clear" skies for the coming week, which will allow heat to build across the region. Monday's outlook is expected to be partly cloudy with a high of 32°C. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the prediction is for mainly clear skies as the mercury climbs to 34°C. On Thursday and Friday, temperatures are expected to peak at 35°C, with night temperatures potentially surging to 23°C by the weekend.
Health officials advise residents to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours as the city transitions into the peak of the pre-monsoon summer.
