LUDHIANA: Besides being an economic setback for Dharamsala, shifting of the venue of the India-Pakistan World T-20 match is also a disappointment for city residents. They feel robbed of the opportunity to watch what is usually a gripping match between the two countries, that too in the scenic environs of Himachal.
Under the changed circumstances, they plan to watch the match on big screens in restaurants.
Vineet Jain, a resident of Ludhiana said, "I was already unhappy with the lucky draw system for tickets. Now, that the ground has been changed, it is even more disturbing. I will try to watch the match in Kolkatta too, but let's see the ticket system again."
Harman Singh from Dugri said, "India is doing so well and we cannot even watch the match in Dharamshala. Now we are organising a match party with proper screen and theme with food and drinks."
However, there are those who are willing to travel to Kolkata to watch the match. "My maternal family is based in Kolkata. So me and my husband will definitely go and watch the match. I have asked my uncles to purchase a ticket for us. But yes, we are disappointed this time. Earlier, it was the lottery system and now there's the change of venue," said Anupreet Kaur from Model Town.
Things are not that simple for Karan Singh of Pakhowal Road. "We planned to go to Dharamshala. But going to Kolkata is practically not possible, even though we will try our best. We are making lavish plans in town by clubbing with restaurant owners. In fact, the arrangements we are making now entail more expense than watching the match in the stadium," he said.
