LUDHIANA: Members of Eco-Sikh club on Sunday carried out a plantation drive in the city and planted 51 saplings, to mark the 550 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. The drive was jointly organized by members of Eco-Sikh club and local industrialists. Members have now created a Guru Nanak Sacred Nursery with 25,000

saplings

that would cater to the future projects to be taken up.


Gurwinder Singh, one of the local industrialist, who was part of the drive said, "This plantation drive has spread a positive message to people from different walks of life from the city. It gave a message about the importance of forest in modern world." He said that they were happy that such initiatives coincide with the birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev. Vikramjit Singh, another local industrialist said that the environment enthusiasts along with Eco-Sikh Club have created three forests of 550 trees with the Miyawaki technique where no chemicals or fertilizers were used. "This is an established way of creating jungles and it is not being done on an experiment basis," said Singh.

Speaking about these developing forests one of members of Eco-Sikh , Ravneet Singh, said, "This is the 24th and so far the biggest GNSF( Guru Nanak Sacred forest) of Punjab on 580 square meters, it comprises of 1650 plants with highest number of native species in one forest planted by Miyawaki Japanese afforestation technique." He said that the forests grows 30 times dense in few years and can be developed as a habitat for birds and worms that would help in rejuvenating the
