PHAGWARA: Congress came down heavily on MoS Vijay Sampla after a video clip of the BJP leader’s speech went viral in which he talked about using his influence to help cancel 38 false cases registered against BJP workers in Phagwara. Congress said it reflected how the leaders of SAD-BJP used the police according to their whims during their regime.
The video clip is from Sampla’s speech at his residence in Hoshiarpur after his return from Delhi on April 26 in which he expressed his grouses in the presence of
Haryana finance minister and Punjab party affairs in-charge Captain Abhimanyu.
Former Congress minister Joginder Singh Mann, a three-time MLA from Phagwara, said, “In the speech Sampla is implying that Phagwara MLA Som Parkash, who is now BJP candidate from Hoshiarpur, got these cases registered against workers of his own party and he (Sampla) got those cancelled. Either Som Parkash got the cases falsely registered or Sampla intervened in the process of law. Both ways, it suggests that BJP leaders were making police work according to their whims, either by getting the cases registered or getting them cancelled.”
“SAD-BJP blatantly misused police for their political purposes and Sampla’s speech has only proven that. Let former CM
Parkash Singh Badal, home minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and top BJP leaders answer what Sampla alleged against Phagwara MLA in his speech. They should also explain about political interference in working of police,” Mann added.
Sampla had expressed anguish at denial of ticket to him and allotting the same to his bête noire Som Parkash. However, later he relented and said he would work to get Modi back as PM. His speech is now becoming an embarrassment for SAD-BJP.
