LUDHIANA: It's raining medals in the city with local players doing their best at the inter state athletic championship that was held in Bangalore between June 11 and 14.
Arpinder Singh and O P Jaisha, who returned to the city late on Sunday night, have also bagged a gold each in triple jump and 1,500 metre race respectively. Jaisha also won a bronze medal for steeplechase.
Arpinder, a resident of Guru Nanak Stadium Road, said his jump covered a distance of 16.32 metres in triple jump.
''It was not easy to balance my studies and the practice but i managed it somehow. I used to train for six hours a day,'' said the 19-year-old athlete.
Arpinder gave all the credit to his coach Sukhdev Singh Pannu and said without his guidance he would not have got this success. He had also won a gold in the national games held in Ranchi and also the Junior World Championship of 2009 and 2010 held in Italy and Canada respectively.
Jaisha, a resident of Wadi Haibowal, participated in 1,500 metre race to clinch a gold medal and 3,000 metre steeplechase, winning a bronze medal.
''I had participated in Asian games and at other international level games, giving my best shot in every competition. My coach was my husband Gurmant Singh who supported me through every situation,'' she said.
On Saturday Satinder Singh and Amritpal Singh had returned home after winning gold medals at the athletic championship in Bangalore. Satinder won the top spot for 400 metre hurdle athletics and Amritpal grabbed the gold with a long jump.
