DCM Presidency School
has resolved to rid the school of 'single-use plastic' viz polythene bags, mineral water bottles, cold drink plastic bottles, and low-quality plastic to spread awareness and an aspect of empathy towards preservation of the environment.Talking to TOI,Rajni Kalra
, principal of the school, said, “Considering schools are directly associated with parents, students and indirectly with the community. Thus, the onus is on the school to lead from the forefront in achieving the target of sustainable development goals. All stakeholders, including students, parents, staff members and their friends and relatives, visitors to the campus, have been involved in an extensive campaign accentuating the negative impact of low-quality plastics.”The school has launched this drive in January, and a series of sessions and talks resourced by experts arranged for the teachers, students, and even the sub-staff had been organized to promote awareness and boost the resolution against the use of single-use plastics.The campus exudes the plastic-free campus feel, with signages and flexes highlighting the same.Kalra said, “ The students have especially been asked not to use polythene bags and have been encouraged to use food-grade plastic tiffins and water bottles, if not thermosteel tiffins and water bottles.”In the school, the academic faculty highlight the negative impact of non-biodegradable plastics, and solutions are given to the students about questions, if any, on alternate use of environment-friendly resources.Anirudh Gupta, CEO of the school said, “ The parent partnership programs involve exhibitions on training the students in paper bag making, accentuating the aspect of reusing waste newspapers. Now, we would focus on switching stationery items including pens and folders too. ”
