City immersed in devotion to mark birth of Khalsa
Ludhiana: Baisakhi was celebrated with immense religious fervour and enthusiasm as devotees congregated at Gurdwaras from early morning to offer prayers and participate in special programmes. The occasion marked the birth of the Khalsa and witnessed large gatherings, kirtan darbars, sewa, and community meals organised throughout the city. Special diwan programmes were held in several gurdwaras where ragis rendered Gurbani kirtan, creating a deeply devotional atmosphere.Devotees, including families, youth, and the elderly, participated in the congregations and listened to discourses highlighting the significance of Baisakhi and the teachings of the Sikh Gurus. The gurdwaras were beautifully decorated with flowers and lights, while Nishan Sahib ceremonies were also conducted at some places. Large numbers of volunteers carried out sewa by managing shoe stands, serving water, preparing langar, and assisting devotees. Langar remained active throughout the day, serving thousands of people. The spirit of selfless service was visible as people from different walks of life joined hands to cook, clean, and distribute food. Many devotees also offered karah prasad and contributed towards langar arrangements. Amrit Sanchar ceremonies were organised at a number of gurdwaras to mark the auspicious occasion. Several devotees, including youth, took Amrit and joined the Khalsa Panth. Religious leaders addressed the gatherings and urged the sangat to follow the path of truth, equality, and service as laid down by the Sikh Gurus. They also emphasised the importance of unity and maintaining Sikh traditions. The Khalsa embodies the idea of purity of mind, character, and courage to be disciplined, brave, and devoted to the Almighty as a Sant-Sipahi (saint-soldier), another devotee said, adding that each individual must personify these values through action and spirit with devotion and sewa. Cultural celebrations were also held at some city malls and markets. The venues were decorated with traditional Punjabi elements and rural themes, and visitors participated in the celebrations in traditional attire and cultural fervour.
