LUDHIANA: These days the city's social circuit is on fire with women organizing kitty parties on the theme of Lohri, like this one hosted by Rimpy Malhotra. "A kitty in January means celebrating Lohri with friends. I hosted a kitty on the Lohri theme and we celebrated in the spirit of Punjab. We also played games related to the theme. We had Tambola, small kites and paper games," she said.
Another kitty member, Priya Kapoor said, "We were all heavily decked up in ethnic wear. Most of us wore suits with heavy dupptas, tikka and passa. Many of the girls carried phulkaris with their attire."
Much of the spirit of the festival has to do with its taste, said the women. Shikha Lekhi, a kitty member said, "We kept gachak, revari and peanuts, which are staple for Lohri celebrations. We also had the dhol and sang bolis. Many of us did the giddha."
The dhol invigorated the party as women lived it up with the bhangra and giddha.
