After struggling for 3 days, PAU student succumbs
Ludhiana: Three days after meeting with an accident on PAU campus, 21-year-old Khushwinder Singh, a student of third year of BSC Agriculture of Punjab Agricultural University, succumbed to his injuries early on Tuesday morning.He had been admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital with critical injuries. The accident had occurred around 10pm on April 1 when Khushwinder along with his friend Fatehveer was travelling from the student field area towards Agronomy chowk on his motorcycle. The two-wheeler crashed into the chowk and then rammed a tree. Khushwinder was rushed to the DMCH emergency. Fatehveer received minor injuries in the incident.Other students claimed that the accident might have occurred due to poor lighting on the university roads. One of the students said, “Poor lighting at PAU puts commuters in trouble at night. This may be the reason for the accident. Areas on the outskirts are not properly lit.” A security officials at the university claimed that, “The student was overspeeding, which led to the accident.” TS Riar, additional director communication, PAU, said, “Exact reason behind the accident has not been ascertained yet. We have not approached the police, because he did not ram his bike into any other person.”He said, “We have taken initiatives on the campus, including installation of speed barriers, to speeding of vehicles on the main roads.” Rajinder Pal Singh, SHO, PAU police station, said, “We were not intimated about this accident. We have received information regarding accident cases from PAU quite frequently.”Meanwhile, 35 students and hostel mates along with PAU officials attended Khushwinder’s cremation at his village at Fazilka.Nirmal Jaura, DSW, said, “We may call a prayer meeting on Wednesday.”
