72 tobacco packets, 2 phones seized from jail in 10 days
Ludhiana: It seems that there is no stopping to the entry of prohibited stuff in the Ludhiana Central Jail. In the past 10 days as many as 72 packets of tobacco and 2 mobiles have been recovered from the central jail. On Monday, 64 packets of tobacco and two mobile phones were seized from three undertails during a surprise checking drive. The accused identified as Harsimran Singh, Sunny and Sooraj Kumar are lodged in reception ward II-A of Ludhiana Central Jail. In the wee hours of Monday, the teams of Ludhiana jail conducted surprise checking at the ward. During the drive he staffers managed to seize two mobile phones and 64 packets of tobacco. Thereafter, the assistant superintendent of jail Shiv Kumar lodged a complaint with the police. A case has been registered against the trio under various sections of the Prison Act. On Sunday also, a head constable, Pushpinder Singh, deputed at Ludhiana Central Jail was arrested for supplying tobacco packets to the inmates. Assistant jail superintendent Pardyuman Kumar stated that eight packets of tobacco were seized from head constable, which were hid in his shoes.
The head constable had come to the jail premises to join his shift of duty. When the jail staff frisked him, they found eight packets of tobacco hid in his shoes. Prior to that, on July 13, the jail staffers had seized four mobile phones from inmates Pawanjeet Singh, Anil Kumar, Shubham and Surjeet Ram during surprise checking. Box- Recovery at observation home On July 14, the staffers of observation home arrested a resident of Jalandhar bypass, Sunny, for throwing four tobacco packs and one mobile phone on the premises of the observation home from outside. The same day the staffers of brostal jail staffers arrested a PESCO guard, Harmesh Singh, with a tobacco packet while on duty.
