LUDHIANA: Morning-after pill to prevent pregnancy is getting quite popular among the city women. There has been an increase in the sale of emergency contraceptive pills and many a time, young girls themselves go to buy these. Talking to TOI, Aman Kumar, a representative of the chemist union, says, ‘‘There has been an increase by 20% in the sales of emergency contraceptive pills.
Earlier, around 20 persons used to ask for it in a month, and now, about three persons come every day. More awareness is pushing up their sales.’’
Kulwinder Singh, a chemist in Model Town, says, ‘‘There has been a big rise in the sales, as many medicine companies have come out with these. Also, these are easily available and there are many choices. Even young girls don’t hesitate in asking for the pills.’’ A chemist of Jawahar Nagar Camp, Jagpreet Singh, says there was more exposure to the option.
