Women mins slam oppn over anti-women stand
Lucknow: Condemning the failure of the Nari Shakti Vandan Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, women ministers of Uttar Pradesh termed it an anti-women move by opposition parties that would deprive women of their rights. They accused opposition parties of prioritising dynastic politics over women’s empowerment. BJP women leaders alleged that both the Samajwadi Party and Congress want only women from their own families to hold positions in Parliament and state assemblies. They claimed the opposition’s actions would have electoral consequences.Questioning Akhilesh Yadav’s motive, cabinet minister Baby Rani Maurya said, “This shows that only Dimple Yadav and her family have the right to Parliament.”“Today, the President of the country is a woman, and women are serving in many top positions, contributing to the nation’s development. The amount of work the PM has done for women’s welfare is unprecedented,” said MLA Vijay Laxmi Gautam.Meanwhile, minister Rajni Tiwari said the Samajwadi Party is uneasy with schemes for women and that the reservation would have helped realise the PM’s vision of a strong India — something the opposition does not want to see happen.MLA Aditi Singh said women’s empowerment strengthens society and accelerates overall development, which the opposition and Akhilesh Yadav are unwilling to accept.
