LUCKNOW: 43-year-old Maya Devi died at KGMU's trauma centre battling gunshot injury on Tuesday morning while the remaining two injured remained under observation. On Monday, constable Shivjeet Singh, had fired indiscriminately at his in-laws on the KGMU compound. The gunshots fired from Singh's .38 bore service revolver injured his brother-in-law Anil and grazed past wife Neetu's leg and Neetu's aunty Saroj.
Singh got married to Neetu two years back but fissures emerged in their relationship thereafter. A case related to dowry harassment charges was lodged against Singh few months back. As his relationship with in-laws soured over time, Singh attacked Neetu's family.
The family had come back after conducting a pre-wedding ceremony at Gonda. Anil was to get married soon. Around 9pm, Singh reached employees colony in KGMU compound and fired several rounds before escaping. He was arrested and the injured were rushed to trauma centre subsequently where Maya Devi died on Tuesday, said circle officer of Cantt area, Sarvesh Mishra.
