LUCKNOW: Till 5pm on Thursday, 55.68 % voter turnout was recorded at Gola Gokarannath assembly constituency in the bypoll, said election commission of India.
Earlier on February 23, the constituency had registered 65.65 % (2.60 lakh) voter turnout including 1.39 lakh male voters and 1.19 lakh female voters out of the total registered electors 3.96 lakh.
According to ECI, 441 booths were set up at 222 polling stations for 3.91 lakh registered electors on Thursday.
In this bypoll, there were 2.06 lakh male and 1.84 female registered electors in the assembly constituency, but in February the number of male and female electors were comparatively more---2.08 lakh male electors and 1.87 female electors.
A total of seven contenders had stood up in the bypoll of Gola Gokarannath including former
BJP (
Bharatiya Janata Party) MLA Arvind Giri’s son Aman Giri, Samajwadi Party’s candidate
Vinay Tiwari and others.
Gola Gokarannath seat was vacant after the death of Arvind Giri on September 6.
Arvind Giri won the February assembly polls by a margin of 29,294 votes. He had received 1.26 lakh votes, while Vinay Tiwari got 97,240 votes.
