BHADOHI: Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi district registered a case against a youth for allegedly posting derogatory remarks on social media about Maa Karni, the clan deity revered by the Rajput community, officials said to news agency PTI on Sunday.
According to police, the case was filed on Saturday at Chauri police station against Sachin Sonkar under Sections 196(1), 353(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), following a complaint by Raghavendra Pratap Singh, district president of the Bhadohi Kshatriya Karni Sena.
Station House Officer Ram Sarikh Gautam said the accused allegedly used highly offensive language about Maa Karni in posts circulated across multiple social media platforms.
In his complaint, Singh claimed the remarks had hurt the sentiments of several Rajput organisations and warned that such content could spark caste tensions in the district.
Police said screenshots and videos of the posts have been collected as evidence and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused.
