UP plans textile parks in five districts; fast-tracks land acquisition in Sant Kabir Nagar

Lucknow: Claiming that the govt has accelerated land acquisition for implementation of the Sant Kabir Nagar Textile and Apparel Park scheme, an official spokesperson on Monday said that the preparatory work had also been launched. Under the scheme, five PPP model textile and apparel parks are planned in Varanasi, Amroha, Bareilly, Sant Kabir Nagar and Bijnor.

“More than 326 acres of land have been identified for the projects, and the transfer of all land parcels has received cabinet approval,” departmental officials said.

“In Varanasi, 75 acres of land has been identified in Ramna while for Amroha, 79.825 acres has been earmarked. Likewise, in Bareilly, 79.58 acres has been reserved in the Bahedi area while 39.49 acres of land in Sant Kabir Nagar’s Maghar area has been set aside. The fifth project site will be in the Nagina area of Bijnor where 52.91 acres of land has been provided,” said the official.

The govt has already issued a notification for the formation of the project authority and completed the land transfer process.

The pre-feasibility report for the Varanasi textile park has been submitted by the Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA), while revised reports for the remaining four parks are being prepared.

These reports are expected to incorporate feedback received from industry stakeholders before being finalised.

Work has also progressed on supporting infrastructure for the Varanasi project.

The tender process for the construction of a connecting road has been completed and contractual formalities are underway.

Plans have also been prepared for a 132-kV substation, transmission line and associated power infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the park.

Officials said statutory approvals related to environmental clearance, groundwater use and forest department permissions are being processed.

Tender documents for selecting master developers for the remaining four parks are also being prepared under the PPP framework.

The proposed parks are expected to cater to textile manufacturing, ready-made garments and technical textiles, while strengthening the state’s textile ecosystem and creating employment opportunities in the project regions.
