ALIGARH: A group of committed social activists from Uttar Pradesh has decided to launch a peace march to mobilise public opinion for initiating dialogue on issues presently dividing the nation.
The Uttar Pradesh Rabita Committee, a leading social and educational organisation of the Indian Muslims, founded by the late Islamic scholar, Maulana Ali Mian, will launch a shanti yatra later this month.
Called the All-India Sadhbavna and Shanti Caravan, the march will take off from the Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi, on January 10 and culminate at the Aligarh Muslim University 10 days later, after covering Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Ranchi, Kolkata and Patna.
Those who will be participating in different phases of the peace march include noted jurist Justice V R Krishna Iyer, noted Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande, Maulana Rabey Hasan Nadvi, president, All-India Muslim Personal Law Board, Kuldeep Nair, Khushwant Singh, Rev. Father Vincent C M (Archbishop of Delhi), A M Khusro, A R Kidwai, K P Rustamji, Amrik Singh, Rafiq Zakaria, Roop Rekha Verma and Maulana Kalb-e-Sadiq.
