Artem Chigvintsev will not Face charges after domestic violence arrest
Dancing with the Stars alum Artem Chigvintsev, 42, will not be prosecuted following his August arrest on suspicion of domestic violence. Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley announced on Tuesday, Sept. 24, that her office decided not to file criminal charges against Chigvintsev after conducting a thorough review of the evidence. In a press release, Haley emphasized the need to meet the highest legal standard before filing charges. While we take every arrest seriously and firmly oppose domestic violence, we have an ethical obligation to only file charges when the evidence supports them," Haley stated. "We must prove all criminal charges 'beyond a reasonable doubt.' If the evidence doesn’t meet this level, we cannot ethically pursue charges." DA's office noted they could revisit the case if new facts or evidence emerge. Chigvintsev was arrested on Aug. 29 in Napa Valley, California, on charges of corporal injury to a spouse, just two days after celebrating his second wedding anniversary with wife Nikki Garcia. He was released on $25,000 bail the same day. Although it was not confirmed that Garcia was the spouse involved, Chigvintsev reportedly called 9-1-1 on the day of his arrest, alleging that the Total Divas star threw shoes at him and requested medical assistance. PEOPLE has reached out to Chigvintsev's representative for comment.
