Keeping a sharp vigil on the district, which earned notoriety due to the copying mafia before 2017-18, STF's Varanasi field unit received inputs regarding the principal of Bhagelu Das Inter College facilitating some candidates by allowing solvers to appear in the exam on their behalf during the high school English paper. A team led by inspector Anil Singh along with static magistrates Arvindra Kumar Singh and Manorama Singh, raided room 12 of the college.
During this raid, Shivam Yadav was found appearing in the exam in place of Shubham Yadav. Apart from him, the STF also arrested the principal. During initial interrogation, Shivam confessed that he was appearing in the exam in place of Shubham since the first paper of the high school examination in return for a payment of Rs 40,000. He did not face any problem as his biometric and other checks did not take place due to the involvement of the principal.
