Lucknow: A man seeking a lift was abducted, held hostage, and looted by five youths under the influence of alcohol in the Sairpur area of Madiaon. The incident took place on April 5, and police arrested two accused on Wednesday.
According to ADCP North JK Dubey, the arrested individuals were identified as Ayan (21) and Ravi Shukla (22), both residents of Sitapur. The remaining three – Aman Yadav, Sujeet Yadav, and Himanshu Shukla – are currently absconding.
The accused had reportedly offered the victim, Anuj Kumar of Sidhauli (Sitapur), a lift in their car under the pretext of dropping him from Sairpur to Sidhauli. However, after he boarded the vehicle, they diverted the route towards Kakori via Kisan Path. There, they allegedly locked the car doors, assaulted and abused Anuj, and robbed him of his mobile phone and cash. The group also forced him to unlock his phone and transferred Rs 6,000 from his account via Google Pay.
Police said the accused confessed to spending the stolen money on partying and kept the victim's mobile phone for personal use.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the crime branch (North) and Sairpur police intercepted and arrested Ayan and Ravi near the Raitha underpass on Kisan Path. The car used in the crime was also recovered. Based on the findings, Section 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was added to the charges.
