LUCKNOW: The district police here between the intervening night of Thursday and Friday arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a 40-year-old truck driver of Haryana. The miscreants after killing the driver took away the truck carrying a stock of about Rs 12 lakh.
Those nabbed identified themselves as Sameer alias Kehsav Kumar alias Vidhayak and Kedar, both residents of Bhadoi.
The two killed Ram Kishan of Rohtak in Harayana. Ram Kishan worked for a transport company in Haryana. The manager of the transport company, Jagdeesh is the brain behind the whole crime. He told the two accused that after robbing the truck they will share the profits. On March 27, Ram Kishan along with his helper Keshav Kumar left for Malda in West Bengal from Karnal with the truck (HR 39 A 8019) carrying 927 tins of mustard oil.
They reached Lucknow the next day where they were joined by Kedar. That was the last time when the truck driver was in contact with the owner of the truck, Ram Kishan and after that he could not be tracked.
After the incident came to light the district police worked on the case and arrested the two killers of Ram Kishan on Ring Road in Gudamba police circle after acting on a specific tip-off.
The killers during interrogation admitted to committing the crime and told police that they took the truck from Lucknow to Mirzapur and there they killed Ram Kishan between the intervening night of March 29 and 30. Kishan was hit on the head with an iron rod. The two disposed the driver's body in Mirzapur and sped away with the truck and the stock in it.
Police also recovered from their possession the stolen truck and 73 tins worth about Rs 70,000. The rest of the stock was sold in Delhi by the two and the money earned was spent. Senior superintendent of police (Law and Order) Raghubir Lal said that the man killed was from a well-off family and drove truck only as a hobby. The two were sent to jail on charges of loot and murder.
