LUCKNOW: A truck transporting liquor bottles hidden between sacks of soil from Punjab to Bihar met with an accident in Azamgarh near Madhavapur, in the Pawai police station area, on Purvanchal Expressway (marker 188) on Saturday. The vehicle lost control, crashed through the expressway railing, and plunged 20 feet into a ditch. Over 1,000 liquor bottles have been recovered, with counting still underway. As soon as the truck overturned, liquor bottles spilled onto the road. Local villagers, upon learning of the incident, informed the police, who arrived promptly and began their investigation. SHO Pawai, Pradeep Mishra, said that preliminary findings suggest the liquor bottles were cleverly hidden between sacks filled with soil. "The truck had soil-laden sacks placed at the front and back, with liquor bottles stacked in between. The impact of the crash severely damaged the vehicle, scattering the bottles across the ditch," said Mishra. This is not the first instance of liquor smuggling via Purvanchal Expressway to Bihar. Despite strict vigilance by law enforcement, smugglers continue to devise new methods. SHO Mishra stated that his team is currently counting the recovered liquor bottles as part of the investigation.
