Topper from Tamil Nadu to start hospital in his village

LUCKNOW: It was lack of any hospital for about a 100 kilometres from his village Kalipatti in Tamil Nadu that drove a farmer's son Meghanathan P to study medicine and take it up as profession.


On Tuesday, the young doctor who was awarded Pandit Shitla Charan Bajpai Gold Medal for being the best postgraduate student in paediatrics for 2018, said that he would go back to his village to set up a hospital for children.

The early years in life were difficult for Dr Meghanathan as he did his studies and assisted his father in tilling and farming the half an acre of land the family had.

"I used to get up at 2am and studied for medical entrance till 8am. Then I went to school and on returning, worked on the farm with my father," he said.

Dr Snehkiran Raghuvanshi won Prof N K Agarwal gold medal for scoring highest in MDS (

prosthodontics

) and Crown & Bridge.

She said, "I always wanted to become a dentist and after getting second rank in UPPGME, I got enrolled in KGMU. Since my sister is a pathologist, I wanted to do something different and joined dentistry."

Dr Arohi Gupta, who won Thakur Ulfat Singh gold medal for being best student in MD (paediatrics), said, "It was my parents dream that I should become a doctor. Over time, I started dreaming the same too. I want to open an NGO for free treatment of poor patients."
