Saharanpur cops recover 180 stolen mobiles worth Rs 40L
Lucknow: In a major push towards digital policing and citizen-centric service delivery, the surveillance cell of Saharanpur Police recovered 180 missing and stolen mobile phones valued at Rs 40 lakh, using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal of the Department of Telecommunications. The initiative follows directive from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, under which SSP Ashish Tiwari instructed all police stations to constitute dedicated teams for mobile recovery. The portal enables the blocking of lost devices through their IMEI numbers and alerts authorities when such devices are reactivated on any network.Through coordinated tracking and field action, teams deployed across all police stations managed to trace 180 devices, marking one of the largest consolidated mobile phone recoveries in the district. The phones were subsequently returned to their rightful owners. SSP Ashish Tiwari said the recovery drive is part of a statewide initiative: "Under the directions of DGP Rajeev Krishna and ADG Meerut Zone Bhanu Bhaskar, a special campaign has been launched to recover stolen or lost mobile phones. This is just the first phase, and several more rounds of recovery operations will follow. We urge all complainants to promptly file reports with complete details so that their devices can be traced at the earliest.""The CEIR-based recovery drive reflects our commitment to integrating technology into everyday policing," said ADG Meerut Zone, Bhanu Bhaskar. "We have placed strong emphasis on capacity-building, ensuring that every police station is trained to effectively use national digital platforms such as CEIR, and is regularly updated through CYTRAIN and other cyber-training modules. These tools empower field personnel to trace devices quickly, respond to citizen complaints efficiently."
