Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra strongly criticised the Centre, asserting that the Lok Sabha debate on Vande Mataram was strategically timed to influence the upcoming West Bengal elections. She questioned why a national song that carries unanimous respect needed any debate at all, suggesting the government was using it as a political tool. According to her, the ruling party intends to reshape the narrative by casting aspersions on freedom fighters and diverting public attention from core issues such as unemployment, inflation, and economic distress. She argued that Prime Minister Modi’s leadership has weakened, claiming his diminishing confidence is reflected in such diversionary tactics. Stressing that national interest should take precedence over electoral gains, Priyanka Gandhi urged the House to focus on matters that truly impact people rather than manufactured controversies.
