LUCKNOW: Of the eight swine flu cases reported from the city so far, a majority were in the last four weeks. In view of the situation in past two years when a high number of swine flu cases were reported, there is growing awareness among general public towards precautionary measures to be taken.

Apart from washing hands and maintaining a safe distance from others, a number of people have started buying masks for safety against infection. A number of chemist shops TOI visited across the city are making arrangements for the three layer disposable mask along with the N series (N-20, N-70 and N-95) masks that provide higher protection, while a number of others had yet to stock up.

medicine shop Anil Kumar said, “There is more awareness about contagious diseases so there is a growing demand for masks and a big variety is available now.“ The shopkeeper said he was selling a good number of masks everyday .

Mothers sending their children to summer camps are also guarding them against infections.

and Tamiflu in capsule and syrup form have yet to become readily available.“As number of cases rises, demand increases, so we will stock up accordingly,“ said a medicine shopkeeper.
