LUCKNOW: As if chain and purse snatching incidents in Ghazipur police circle of the trans-Gomti region of the city were not enough, in a daring incident reported on Tuesday, cash Rs two lakh were robbed in broad day light from two people.
The victims Lokendra Awasthi and Om Prakash Arora, accountants in a private firm had gone to the State Bank Of India branch near Bandhan Guest House on Faizabad Road.
They withdrew the cash around 11 am and when they were getting the cash inside a bag and walked a few metres on the road from the bank two motorcycle-borne youths came speeding on their bike from behind and before the victims could realise what the miscreants were up to, they snatched away the bag and escaped.
Awasthi and Arora did try to chase the two, even raising an alarm to gather the locals but all in vain. One of them immediately informed the police control room, from where the information about the crime was passed on to the Ghazipur police.
Ghazipur police after reaching the site asked the sequence of events from the victims and some of the eye witnesses. Later the two victims were taken to the police station and their complaint was lodged.
Station Officer Ghazipur police station Arun Kumar Diwedi said that efforts were on to identify the miscreants who committed the crime. Efforts were also on to finding out a similarity in this loot and another robbery in Bazaarkhala police circle a week ago where employees of a bread factory were robbed of Rs five lakh in daylight.
The police have also not denied the involvement of an insider in the crime. "We are also investigating about who are the other people who work with Dayal Industries along with the victims, as there is a probability that somebody known to them might have provided the miscreants a tip off about the withdrawl of cash because the cash was withdrawn daily at the same time," said DIG, Lucknow NK Srivastava.
