UP: Rape, murder accused held within 12 hours

LUCKNOW: Two men accused of gangrape and murder of a minor girl were arrested in an encounter within 12 hours of the crime in

The police team was rewarded Rs 50,000 for its swift action.

Gonda SP Santosh Mishra said the accused were identified as Mahesh Yadav and Sanjay.

“The minor girl had gone out around 8pm on Friday but did not return. Her family got worried and after searching for around half an hour, they found her body in a field about 100 metres from the house,” said Mishra.

Police were informed and the accused traced to a sugarcane field. An encounter ensued and firing was exchanged.

Yadav got injured while Sanjay surrendered.
