Lucknow: Traffic crawled on major roads of the city for over eight hours on Sunday because of diversions and movement of BSP workers who arrived from across the state to attend their party's rally. Chaos prevailed from early morning till 5 in the evening, spoling Sunday of many in the state capital. Many were forced to stay in doors, while several missed trains or buses.
All roads leading to the rally venue at Jail road were jammed, including Amar Shaheed Path, Charbagh, Hussainganj, Latouche road, Kaiserbagh and Alambagh. The cascading affect led to jam and congestion on Hazratganj-Charbagh road, University road,
Lohia
Path and several interior localities. All roads were crammed with vehicles and rally participants, while commuters were seen jostling to get out of the situation.
"I was stuck in traffic for more than an hour and had to put off my visit to a relative. Traffic jam has become a norm on almost every Sunday for some reason or the other-polical rallies, protests and exams. Adminstration must chalk out a long lasting solution," said Aniruddh Seth who was stuck in jam near Mawaiya.
"My daughter requested me for a movie and I could not fulfil her wish as we were stuck in a jam for more than 45 minutes till she insisted we return home," said Gyanesh Tiwari who was seen stuck near KKC college.
All entrances to railway station were barricaded and made no vehicle zone by GRP at Charbagh station. The barricading caused trouble to daily passengers as well as those who came to board their trains.
Rahul Arora, who returned from Punjab with the family, had to walk for at least a kilometre with luggage till they found an auto rickshaw to Gomtinagar.
"I missed the train, though I reached the station 15 minutes before the departure of Intercity express because there was barricading at all entrances. I was confused as to where I should enter from as I was in an auto rickshaw and GRP and RPF were not allowing entry," said Siddharth Dhawan, a passenger.
