"It is not surprising that in Delhi, even the person at the teller counter is an MBA," he said.
Delivering his presidential address at the second convocation ceremony of Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU), here on Wednesday, he said that in 1975, there were only five institutes, which offered MBA degrees, while there were 2000 institutes offering the same degree now.
He also pointed out to the country’s distinct identity nowadays, where the president was a scientist and the prime minister an economist. "There are very few countries in the world who can boast of such a unique distinction," he said.
Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, too, focussed on the quality of education. "It is the student who should be at the centre of education and it should not be imposed on them," he said, adding that absence of this attitude had brought about differences in society, often leading to violence. "Education should be for the society and for the country," said the chief minister.
The guest of honour Prof CS Jha, who was awarded the letter of honour and honorary degree of DSc by UPTU, stressed on major issues knocking at the country’s door, including the WTO regime.
