Probe ordered after kidney stone patient dies before surgery at pvt hospital in Sultanpur
Lucknow: The Sultanpur police and health department officials are investigating the death of a 48-year-old man at a local hospital. The deceased, Rajesh Mishra, was a native of Ashapur village and was admitted to Shubhangi Hospital on March 2. He was due for kidney stone removal surgery the next day but, according to relatives, he died due to an overdose of anaesthesia.
According to the patient's nephew, Amar Krishna Tewari, Rajesh was taken to Shubhangi Hospital with a complaint of abdominal pain. Following tests, the hospital's doctor, Rajesh Kumar Gautam, diagnosed kidney stones and advised surgery, which was to be conducted on the evening of March 3 under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. "My uncle was stable before the procedure, but his condition deteriorated after he was administered an anaesthesia injection inside the operation theatre. We have come to know that instead of calling an anaesthesia specialist, hospital staff administered the dose themselves, which claimed his life," Amar told reporters. He also claimed that the family was not apprised of the patient's deteriorating condition in time, as the hospital tried to hush up the matter. "But when things slipped out of hand and my uncle began experiencing convulsions, the hospital referred him to another facility, where he was declared dead," Amar said. Chief medical officer, Dr Bharat Bhushan, said, "A team has been constituted to investigate the matter. They will also visit the hospital and examine the circumstances to bring the truth to the fore." He also said that the post-mortem of the patient was conducted by a panel of experts and the entire proceedings were recorded. Meanwhile, Dr Rajesh Kumar Gautam denied allegations of negligence, stating that specialist doctors were called for the surgery and that the patient's condition deteriorated suddenly during the procedure.
