President to give medals to 4 toppers at BBAU
LUCKNOW: It will be a moment of lifetime for four toppers of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University on December 15, when the university will hold its 7th convocation. Among 210
The four students were selected on the basis of their marks. “Top four students securing highest marks in all faculties have been selected," said an official.
For students who are already overwhelmed with joy, it will be a special moment to be cherished lifelong. Kids of small-time farmer, Mahendra and Manjesh have a common feeling. “Getting a medal from the President is the biggest gift we can ever give to our parents," said the duo. While Mahendra hails from Basti, Manjesh is a resident of Hardoi. Their father’s, both farmers earn between Rs 70,000 to 1 lakh yearly, and are even not too literate.
“My father is a class 8 drop out while my mother is illiterate. But they always encouraged me to pursue higher studies. Education, they beleive is the only salvation to poverty," Mahendra said, adding, the medal from the President will mean a lot to him.
For Richa Verma, the moment of getting medal from President will be exciting and filled with pride. “Not only will I meet him (President) for the first time, but the moment of pride is that I will get an award from him personally on the stage. There can be no other dream for students and parents," Richa said.
On the convocation, 210 students, from academic session 2015-16 and 2016-17 will get gold medals while 105 research scholars will get PhD degrees. There are 60 MPhil students and 450 students who completed their postgraduation in various disciplines.
