Posthumous Sena Medal for Naik Nishant in UP

LUCKNOW: For his supreme sacrifice, exemplary courage, camaraderie and inspirational leadership, resulting into saving three lives, Naik Nishant Sharma of Saharanpur will be given gallantry Sena medal posthumously next week at Central Command Investiture Ceremony in Jabalpur.

Sharma was part of the road opening party along the sensitive Laleali post in the Chhamb sector of Jammu and Kashmir on January 18, 2021 when hostile neighbour force started unprovoked mortar fire. According to defence PRO office, "Sharma took a split second decision to alert all and rushed to push the members of his party to safety. In doing so, he bore the brunt of the splinters and sustained fatal injuries." He succumbed to his injuries on January 24, 2021.
