LUCKNOW: The
polythene
being seized in raids and collected in garbage is not reaching its ultimate destination, the Shivri treatment plant, but is being temporarily dumped at various transfer stations of
LMC
.
The corporation says that polythene will be taken to the plant only when around 10,000 kg accumulates.
The LMC drive to seize polythene less than 50 micron started from July 13 and the teams have been seizing around 100 kg daily.
So far, it has collected around 800 kg and expects to recover 40,000 kg more from city.
Since
rag pickers
are not picking polythene because they can't sell it further, LMC has been dumping polythene at local transfer stations.
Officials said that they need at least a truck's capacity of about 10,000 kg of polythene to shift it to plant in one go. LMC plans to convert the polythene into refuse-derived fuel (RDF).
"The polythene is being dumped at transfer stations from where it will be taken to Shivri plant in bulk for segregation and conversion into RDF which is used in cement factories and mines," said an LMC official.
Going by the collection rate so far, LMC would take a month to reach the 10,000 kg target which implies more stink and littering across the city.
