Play depicts plight of exploited labourers

Lucknow: A compelling theatrical performance highlighting the plight of exploited labourers captivated the audiences at the UP Sangeet Natak Akademi on Wednesday.The play, ‘Uth Jaag Musafir', was the culmination of a 40-day workshop conducted by Yayavar Rangmandal. Written by Jitendra Mittal and directed by Puneet Mittal, the production masterfully portrayed the stark divide between the rich and poor while emphasizing the transformative power of education."Our primary aim was to nurture the participants' hidden talents, boost their confidence, and develop their social consciousness," said director Puneet Mittal.The narrative centres around a tyrannical landlord who subjects villagers to inhumane working conditions, including a barbaric punishment of mutilation for those who dare to quit. The story takes a turn when an educated servant, Atpattu, challenges the status quo through his wit and intelligence.The ensemble cast featured promising young talents, including Himanshu Gupta, Navneet, Saurish Sharma, and Shrishti Valmiki, Vansh Shukla, Ayushi, Harsh Singh, Anuj Kumar, Priyanshi Gautam, Arav Raj, Ansh Kumar, Nipun Singh, Anchal Gupta, Aradhya Maurya, Aradhika Singh, Abhinav Bhaumik and Veera Singh.Their powerful performances brought to life the struggle against social injustice and exploitation.
