Lucknow: A monitoring committee constituted by Bombay High Court to study solid waste management systems arrived here on Thursday. High court, hearing a PIL, directed Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials to visit Lucknow to study disposal of waste mounds and submit report. The committee includes retired and serving IAS officers, scientists, IIT faculty and waste management experts.At the Smart City office in Lalbagh, LMC officials apprised the team about sanitation and waste management, covering door-to-door collection, GPS-based vehicle tracking, transfer stations, material recovery facilities, biomining of legacy waste, fresh waste processing units and construction and demolition waste plants.

Kumar said waste collection and disposal was strengthened in phases with use of technology and a Command and Control Centre was monitoring operations and addressing complaints. The presentation detailed progress in legacy waste disposal, processing of fresh waste, street cleaning and plastic waste utilisation.The committee will inspect Shivri solid waste processing plant on Friday. Kharkwal said the visit reflected recognition of its waste management work. Committee chairman IAS (Retd) Umakant Dangat said members would conduct site inspections to study collection, transport and processing systems in detail.
