LUCKNOW: A medical board was constituted to examine 24 inmates of the Deoria shelter home on Monday evening. The board, headed by chief medical officer Deoria, Dr Dhirendra Kumar, began its work at around 6 pm to ascertain whether the girls had been sexually assaulted or not.

The board members were also asked to look for any injuries on the bodies of the inmates. Besides this, the board was also asked to ascertain the age of the shelter inmates and assess their nutritional status.

, the chief medical superintendent of government women hospital Deoria. Lady medical officers, including Dr Alpana Rani Gupta, Dr Harshita Srivastava, Dr Swarachna Yadav and Dr Abha Gupta, additional chief medical officers Dr

and Dr Surendra Singh and radiologist Dr KC Rai were present for the procedure which continued till late in the evening.

As per reports, the 24 inmates included four boys aged between 5-8 years.

“At least 15 minutes went in physical examination of each inmate. Thereafter, each was sent for a radiological examination (x-ray) which was to be performed at the district hospital. The drill will take no less than 10 hours,” said a member on the board on the condition of anonymity.

The compilation of the findings and its assessment for every child to give conclusive reports would take more time. “Even if we work all night, we cannot expect the reports to be available before Tuesday noon,” said a staff assisting the board.
