Org rejig ahead? BJP nat’l gen secy meets CM Yogi
Lucknow: BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde on Monday met chief minister Yogi Adityanath and the UP BJP state general secretary (organisation), Dharampal Singh, lending fresh traction to the much-anticipated organisational rejig in the state unit and the possible reshuffle in the UP cabinet.
Tawde began his engagements with Singh before proceeding to meet the CM. The back-to-back discussions come amid BJP’s ever-sharpening electoral strategy to counter a resurgent opposition led by the Samajwadi Party and its ally, the Congress.
According to party sources, Tawde’s deliberations with Singh largely focused on the formation of a new team of state-level office-bearers. This assumed significance as the BJP has already completed appointments at the district and mandal levels in most regions, part of its broader grassroots-strengthening exercise.
However, key organisation appointments for the Gorakhpur region — considered the political backyard of both Yogi and state BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary — are still pending.
The delay in finalising the Gorakhpur unit has added to the anticipation surrounding the reshuffle, with insiders suggesting that the party is treading cautiously to ensure optimal caste and regional representation — factors that are expected to play a decisive role in the upcoming poll battles.
The organisational revamp in the state unit is seen as part of a larger strategy aimed at energising the party's cadre and enhancing booth-level management.
BJP functionaries believe that a rejuvenated structure will be critical in countering a belligerent opposition while intensifying its outreach campaigns and consolidating voter support across social groups.
Parallel to the organisational changes, discussions are also underway regarding appointments to various state boards and corporations. These positions are seen as an important tool to maintain internal balance and reward loyalty.
Sources indicated that Tawde and Yogi held detailed consultations on this front as well, hinting at an imminent round of political appointments.
Speculation is also rife about a possible cabinet reshuffle in the UP govt. While no official confirmation has been made, the timing of Tawde’s visit and the breadth of discussions have fuelled expectations that changes in the council of ministers could accompany the organisational overhaul, aligning governance priorities with electoral strategy.
Sources said Tawde is next expected to meet the party’s top functionaries in Delhi to apprise them of the state unit’s organisational position. This will subsequently pave the way for the final announcement of the state team and changes in the cabinet.
