Officials seize goods worth Rs 95 lakh
LUCKNOW: Customs officers during their visit to Lucknow Railway station recently found one of the Special Leased Racks connected with Delhi-Lucknow Shatabdi Express Train stuffed with smuggled goods along with Indian goods. When the officers tried to seize the smuggled goods, the same was opposed by local railway officials. The estimated cost of entire consignment is around Rs 95 lakh.According to Ajay Dixit,commissioner customs (prevention) Lucknow, the traders who had purchased thesesmuggled goods from Delhi also gathered at the railway station and prevented thecustoms officers from seizing the smuggled goods. He said that afterintervention of senior customs and railway officials, the smuggled goods wereallowed by the railways to be detained by the customs officers.Dixit said that the detailed examination of the goods yieldedChinese mobile phones, batteries, mother boards, hard discs, power supply unitsand chips of computers in the consignment. The estimated cost of entireconsignment is around Rs 95 lakh.
