LUCKNOW: During a TOI reality check, residents in many areas complained about inadequate garbage collection for over a week.
While Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) blamed the private agency, EcoGreen Limited, the private company denied any shortcoming on its part.
However, TOI found garbage piles in Indiranagar, Aishbagh, Rajajipuram, Rajendranagar, Yahiyaganj, Aliganj, Sitapur Road Yojna, Mahanagar, Gomtinagar, Chinhat, Papermill Colony, Alambagh, Geetapalli, Balaganj, Haiderganj, Chowk and Ismailganj
"Neither do the municipal trucks come, nor are there dustbins in the colony.
We have complained to LMC, but no action has been taken." said Veena Rana, a resident of Ismailganj-II. A visibly angry Uday Shah, resident of Indiranagar, said, "If garbage collection doesn't resume soon, then I will dump garbage in front of LMC office." Similar issues were raised by Ajita Pathak of Rajajipuram, Vikrant Pandey of Premnagar, Alambagh and Alka Srivastava of Sitapur Road.
LMC environmental engineer Sanjeev Pradhan said, "We have received reports that the private company has not paid their employees on time. As a result, many are not reporting for duty."
However, senior officials of EcoGreen claimed that 500 vehicles have been deployed for door-to-door collection and 100 vehicles to transport waste to Shivri plant.
