Newlywed cop’s wife breaks down, clings to coffin
DG Announces Rs1.9 crore Aid For Kin Of Four Cops Killed In Accident
Lucknow: Scenes of grief unfolded at the police lines in Jalaun on Wednesday as the bodies of four police personnel killed in a road accident in Haryana were brought home for final honours.
The four policemen, along with complainant Amreek Singh, were killed in a road accident on Tuesday morning on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway near Dhulawat toll plaza in Haryana’s Nuh district
During the tribute ceremony, DG Alok Kumar announced financial assistance of Rs1.9 crore each for the families of the four deceased policemen. He also said one member from each bereaved family would be provided a govt job.
The most heart-rending moment came when constable Pradeep Kumar’s wife, Mayuri Verma, clung to her husband’s coffin, crying inconsolably before collapsing in front of grieving relatives and police personnel.
Pradeep and Mayuri had been married barely 66 days ago on Feb 28. The four policemen — sub-inspectors Mohit Yadav and Satyabhan Singh, and constables Ashok Kumar and Pradeep Kumar — were given a ceremonial guard of honour at the police lines in Jalaun in the presence of senior officers of UP Police.
DG Kumar, IG Akash Kulhary, Jalaun district magistrate Rajesh Kumar Pandey, SP Vinay Kumar Singh, and several other officers paid floral tributes and shouldered the coffins of the deceased personnel at the Amar Shaheed memorial.
Following the state honours ceremony, the bodies were handed over to their respective families for cremation in their native districts.
Sub-inspector Mohit Yadav’s last rites were performed in his native village Adampur in Kannauj district, where his younger brother Rohit lit the funeral pyre. Family members said Mohit left behind his wife and two young sons.
Sub-inspector Satyabhan Singh was cremated with full police honours at Panchal Ghat in Farrukhabad, where his elder son Manjeet Singh performed the last rites.
