Musical conclusion of Bhatkhande’s 3-day centenary festival
Lucknow: The 3-day centenary celebrations of Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya concluded at Kalamandapam on Saturday with classical instrumental, vocal and dance presentations in the presence of chief guest, Governor and university Chancellor Anandiben Patel and social welfare minister Asim Arun. Praising the systematic teaching, practice and dissemination of widespread hindustani music, the governor said, "In modern era, this institution has played a pioneering role in music education and has earned international fame on the strength of its disciplined tradition and practice". "Over past 100 years, the institution has produced countless artists, practitioners and academics like Naushad Ali, Talat Mahmood, Dilraj Kaur, Anup Jalota, Purnima Pandey, Malini Awasthi, Vidhi Nagar and Aastha Goswami," she added. Winners of various competitions held as part of centenary celebrations were honoured. Later, a short film based on the changing face of Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya was screened, showing the glorious history, academic achievements and cultural contribution of the university". The hall was packed with students, visitors and guests. Tabla player Pandit Sanju Sahai of Banaras gharana captivated the audience playing ‘teen taal' based on a famous ‘jogiya' song.
Kathak danseuse Shovana Narayan, through her performance, depicted arrival of Lord Krishna in the battlefield of Mahabharat and depicted Draupadi's ‘cheerharan' (disrobing) after the defeat of Pandavas in the game of Chausar (dice game). Odissi dancer Padma Shri Ranjana Gauhar presented a dance depicting story of Mahabharat hero Arjun's yogic practice and his love for queen Chitrangada of Manipur. The programme concluded with vocal recital by Hariharan who sang ghazals like ‘Bekhayali mein chalan us ka bataaya us ko', ‘Ranjish ki aabroo hi sahi' and ‘Sheher dar sheher'.
