Man kills wife, dumps body in trolley bag near canal, fakes missing complaint
Lucknow: A 24-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband in Lucknow, who later packed her body in a trolley bag, dumped it near the Indira Canal in Chinhat and then went to police claiming she was missing, officers said.
The accused, identified as Altaf alias Kallu, 25, was arrested after police found inconsistencies in his version and subjected him to sustained questioning. The victim was identified as Yasmeen, who was married to Altaf for around six years. The couple had two children, a son and a daughter.
According to police, Altaf reached Chinhat police station around 8 am on May 15 and informed officers that his wife had gone missing. During questioning, however, he allegedly kept changing his statements, which raised suspicion. Investigators then checked his location and found that he was near the Indira Dam area.
Police said that when confronted with the discrepancies, Altaf allegedly confessed to killing Yasmeen over suspicions that she was involved in an extramarital affair with a close relative.
Officers said the couple had frequent arguments over the issue and that another dispute broke out on the night of May 13.
According to the police account, Altaf allegedly strangled Yasmeen around 4 am on May 14. He then wrapped her body in polythene, placed it inside a trolley bag, hired an e-rickshaw and dumped the bag in bushes near the Indira Canal before returning home.
After allegedly disposing of the body, Altaf informed family members that Yasmeen was missing and later approached police to file a missing complaint, police said.
Following his alleged confession, police took Altaf to the Indira Dam area, where the trolley bag containing Yasmeen’s body was recovered from the spot identified by him. The body has been sent for postmortem examination.
DCP East Zone Deeksha Sharma, who supervised the investigation, said Altaf’s shifting statements and location details led investigators to suspect foul play.
Yasmeen’s father, Mohammad Saeed, accused Altaf and his family members of murdering his daughter.
