LUCKNOW: A man who battered his wife to death on March 3 night was arrested on Wednesday. The arrested person was identified as Pankaj Kumar Awasthi, a resident of E block in Rajajipuram in the state capital.
According to the police, Pankaj suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship with another man. On the night of March 3, the couple reportedly had a heated argument when Pankaj once again accused his wife of infidelity.

During the argument Pankaj reportedly assaulted his wife with a belt.
Police said that while Pankaj was sleeping, his wife reportedly attacked him and hit him on the face with a brick. During the ensuing tussle between the two, Pankaj reportedly snatched the brick and battered her to death.
The couple's children were also injured during the fight, police said. It was only in the morning when Pankaj's uncle and a few locals broke open the door that the incident came to light.
Pankaj, who earlier denied any involvement in the matter, confessed his crime after his arrest on Wednesday.
