Lucknow's Chatori Gali set to tickle taste buds with delicacies once again

LUCKNOW: From Idrees ki biryani to Tundey Kababi, from Bajpai's kachori to Raja's thandai, the high and mighty names offering the famous delicacies of Lucknow will entice gourmets to the food street in Gomtinagar, aptly named Chatori Gali, which is all set to get a revamped look once again.
The food street was a treat for the connoisseurs when it was opened, but somehow the shops didn't fare well.Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has again started the process of developing Chatori Gali and has floated tenders in this regard for interested companies. The bids will be opened on Saturday afternoon and the company taking over the proposed work will be announced next day.
The idea of turning the stretch from Samta Mulak Chowk to Samajik Parvirtan Sthal in Gomti Nagar area into Chatori Gali - a food street where musical events were also proposed to be organised to attract youngsters and crowds - first came up in 2012. But no suitable company came ahead to take over the project started by the tourism department.
As per the revamp plan, after bidding, the 10 vacant shops and several canopies will be given to the famous local food vendors in the city.
"LDA has floated the tenders for the revamp of the food street. Once the company is finalised, we'll have a presentation as to what all has to be set up apart from food kiosks. To make the Chatori Gali attractive, outlets of famous local food shops such as Raheem's, Sharma tea corner, Dastarkhwan, Prakash Kulfi, and others will be opened on both the sides," said Abhinav Singh, manager of Smarak Samiti.
The outlets will function from 4pm to 11pm and the street will turn into a no vehicle zone during the duration.
"The Chatori Gali stretch comes under Smarak Samiti. Being its member, LDA has asked for responses from the companies. Since the street is connected to Gomti Riverfront and its footfall is much higher in the evening, re-developing the street into what it was initially meant for, will be a treat for visitors," said LDA vice-chairman PN Singh.
