LUCKNOW: Officiating vicechancellor of
Lucknow University SK Shukla and police outpost in charge Abhay Kumar Singh conducted a surprise
inspection of Mahmoodabad hostel
late on Tuesday night and found that two rooms were illegally occupied.
During inspection, they found that two rooms (number 45 and 46) were locked from outside even though they were not allotted to any student.
When they peeped inside through a crack in the door, they found beddings, books, clothes and other belongings in the room.
Police seized belongings of both the rooms.
“I got information in the morning that some outsiders are illegally residing in hostels. I got the list of allottees and checked the hostel to ensure no outsiders are present,” the V-C said.
“We grew suspicious when we found that room number 45 was not properly locked. It opened as soon as we touched it. We had to break the lock of room number 46 to open it,” he said.
LU police outpost in charge Abhay Kumar Singh said, “We have seized all the belongings and trying to find out who occupied the two rooms.”
On January 28 this year, members of the proctorial board caught four illegal occupants. While one managed to flee, the remaining three were found to be former students of the university. One of them even had a non-bailable warrant against him.
