LUCKNOW: Lucknow University has conducted the first-ever research on the philosophical description of 'Hathayoga Pradipika' a classic fifteenth century Sanskrit manual on hatha yoga. The research has been conducted by PhD scholar Sandeep Kumar Chaurasia for six years under the supervision of Prof

Kanchan Saxena

from the philosophy department.

"I pursued masters in yoga and philosophy from the University. Professor Kanchan Saxena told me about the importance of the Hathyoga Pradipika and inspired me to conduct research in the field as little research has been done on the topic," said PhD Scholar Sandeep.

He said Hathayoga Pradipika is the most influential surviving text on hatha yoga and is also one of the three classics along with Gheranda Samhita and

Shiva Samhita

. The manuscript is available at Tagore Library. He said hatha yoga is beneficial for physical, mental and spiritual healing.
