LUCKNOW: The chants of 'Hathi Ghoda Palki, Jai Kanhaiyya Lal Ki' will reverberate in the city on Janmashtami on Friday after two years of lull due to Covid-19. Preparations are underway in temples and police lines to celebrate the birthday of Lord Krishna in a grand way as it used to be in the pre-pandemic period.
A digital jhanki depicting incidents related to birth of Lord Krishna will be on display for six days at New Ganeshganj."There will be several selfie points along with a 20-feet-long Shivlinga and several characters related to famous tales and cartoons as part of the jhanki. The theme of the digital jhanki will change on a daily basis," said organiser Anupam Mittal. "A dance competition will be held on August 23 while phoolo wali holi and some cultural programmes will be conducted on August 24," he added.

At 61-year-old Madhav Mandir, a special abhishek with milk, curd, honey, fruit juices and waters brought from several rivers will be organized. Anurag Sahu, a member of the managing committee said, "The abhishek and rituals will be posted live on the facebook page of the temple. We will be decorating the temple with about 5,001 balloons and a 'chappan bhog' will be set on Janmashtami."
Live jhanki and bhajan sandhya will be organized at

Khatu Shyamji mandir. A special abhishek with panchamrut will also be conducted.
The abhishek will be done for 12 hours at a stretch from noon till midnight at ISKCON temple in Golf City. Temple president Aparimay Shyam Das said, "A group from Vrindavan will be chanting 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' for 24 hours. Special bookings have been made by people for the abhishek. A special dress decorated with zari, beads and pearls worth Rs 2 lakh is brought from Vrindavan for the Radha-Krishna idols. The event will end with a 'matki phod' competition on August 20.
At Reserve Police Lines and PAC Mahanagar, tableaus on the birth of Lord Krishna will be displayed and cultural programmes will be organised with the support of the department of culture.
